Here at GameBoxFix, as much as we love repairing gaming systems, we want nothing but the
best for all gamers globally. What could be more essential to a positive gaming experience than a
fully operational console? These upcoming tips and tricks will help extend the life of your
system and keep you in the action for longer.
- KEEP THE AREA AROUND THE CONSOLE FREE OF DUST.
This tip is monumental and is typically one of the larger issues seen in gaming console repairs.
Along the back or top of your gaming system there will be a grouping of vents that allow the
console to force the warm air out of the system to avoid thermal damage to the internal
components. Cleaning the vents will allow easy passage for the warm air keeping the thermal
paste and components from becoming overheated, leaving your console in great condition. When
cleaning the vents do NOT use compressed or canned air. The pressure from the compressed air
will blow the dust into the internal components and maximize the issue. If using compressed air,
take off the vent plate to avoid further damage. - DELETE UNUSED APPLICATIONS OR GAMES
Keeping open storage space on your gaming console is paramount for your system’s efficiency.
An ample amount of “headroom” for your internal hard drive is roughly 30 percent of the
internal storage capacity. This headroom allows the system to process much more smoothly and
lowers the chance of storage or memory issues in the hard drive. An easy way to keep this space
open is to analyze your games and applications by time of use. Whatever applications or games that you have not used in some time, uninstall them from the hard drive. If you have purchased the game or application, do not worry, uninstalling the program will not void your transaction.
- AVOID TRANSPORTING YOUR CONSOLE
Now this can be a hard request for the gamers who love to LAN or move their consoles to a
friend’s house to avoid the limitations of split screen gaming. However, transporting the console
is one of the easiest ways to damage your system! Many issues can be a result of frequent system
transportation, the most prominent being the HDMI port becoming unaligned from the
motherboard. If you must move your console, detach all cords from the system to avoid bending
the wires and manipulating the position of the internal port. Also, be delicate when dealing with
the wires upon removal or set up as these ports are known to be extremely fragile. - NEVER KEEP YOUR SYSTEM RUNNING OR IN SLEEP MODE WHEN NOT
ACTIVELY USING THE CONSOLE.
Letting your console idle or “sleep” while you are away from the console is NOT a smart idea.
Although the sleep mode on the Playstation is built for this type of use, it does not fully stop the
console from producing heat. The level of heat may be a bit cooler than when the console is fully
operating but can and will still cause some overheating issues. This low but consistent level of
heat will dry out the thermal paste over time and cause components to be misplaced from the
motherboard.
Respecting these four simple tips will allow your console to run better, faster, and stronger for a
longer period of time. If you run into any troubles with your gaming experience, call or search
